Vraelis Prompto writes a lockfile for every model folder and agent setup it pins: each file, its size and its SHA-256. It is the right record and the wrong thing to stare at. Two 64-character digests that differ in one place look the same to a tired reviewer.
So every lockfile now has a shape. Drop a modellock.json or addonlock.json into the crystal viewer and it grows a crystal from the files and their digests, in your browser, without uploading anything.
How a lockfile becomes a stone
Each file is one face, a column from tip to tip. A face is as wide as its file's share of the bytes, so a weights shard is broad and a config file is a sliver. Where each face bends is computed from that file's own digest, and the stone's height and waist come from the digest of the whole lockfile.
That makes the shape a fingerprint. Two machines holding the same release hold the same crystal. Change one byte of one shard and that face is cut differently, and the stone's proportions shift with it.
Add the output of verify, and each face takes its file's verdict: green unchanged, orange changed, grey for what could not be checked. Add a second lockfile instead, and the two releases are compared file by file.
More files, more faces
A single GGUF file wraps around three columns so it still forms a stone. A language model split into two dozen shards has two dozen broad faces. An agent's add-ons, its MCP servers, settings and instruction files, grow a cooler stone of their own.
Hardware plays no part. More CPUs, GPUs or processes do not add faces or crystals: the stone is what was approved, not the machine that runs it. Eight machines running the same release are eight identical crystals, which is how Vraelis Contour draws a fleet.
What the picture is not
It is not a check. The idea follows the pictures SSH draws for keys: a fast way for people to notice a difference, never a proof that there is none. The digests decide, and they are listed beside every crystal.
A vraelis crystal command that draws the same stone as an image, offline, is in development for a future release of Vraelis Prompto. It is tested to grow exactly the geometry the viewer does.
